Wallace Hodges "Wally" Mann Jr., 87, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a longtime member of St. George's Episcopal Church. He had retired from the FBI with 32 years of service.

Mr. Mann was an avid advanced checker player, having played in state tournaments in both Virginia and North Carolina.

He was charter member and past president of Fredericksburg Civil War Round Table, organizer and past president of Normandy Village Civic Association, and organizer and chief certified instructor for the first junior Rifle Club in the Fredericksburg area. He was recognized for training over 100 students.

Mr. Mann organized and help sponsor the Antique Specialty Show annual affair for 20 years at the National Guard Armory.

Survivors include his loving wife, Thelma Olson Mann; his daughter, Dorothy Morris and her husband, Wayne; and his son, W. Hodges Mann and his wife, Cyndi, all of Fredericksburg; stepsons, Paul Olson of North Carolina and Peter E. Olson of Two Rivers, Wis.; his grandchildren, Hope Morris, John Morris and Justin Mann and his wife, Paulette; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Mann, Makenna Mann and Andrew Mann; four step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.

His was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Baker Mann.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Fletcher M. Wells officiating. Burial will follow at noon in Quantico National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Paul Olson, John Wayne Morris, Justin Mann, Anthony Torrice, Wayne Morris and Mack Quann.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the funeral home.

Wally was the classic Virginia gentleman, dress and accent... he played the Howard Johnson Danville VA Opens.  Played in 2000 in Danville VA and his death was announced by Ray Shelly at our 2008 District 4.   He was an ACF rated 1650 player in 2000.
